Father’s day is not as well-celebrated as Mother’s Day. Probably, because mothers get most of the credit of child-rearing as they are the ones who carry the baby for 9 months in the womb. But I sincerely know that being a dad is as challenging and fulfilling as that of being a mom.
I grew up with a dad who is very hands-on and strict. We used to be not close to him because of his trying to control us. But, I got my sense of humor from him. Looking back, I did not understand why he had to do what he needed to do but now, I am thankful that he did. Needless to say, if I were to choose another dad, I would still choose him because he molded me into the kind of person I am now.
My father-in-law is the good-looking and charming type. He had 3 wives and had a total of 9 kids with these 3 women. TGL from the 1st wife with 6 siblings, and the 2nd and 3rd wives had 1 kid each. Before he succumbed to cancer, I was a witness on how his children adored him despite his shortcomings. Even up to his last breath, he was very charming.
My eldest brother and my sister-in-law have been trying to have kids for the longest time. They had a miscarriage in the past and they’re both in the late 30s. No matter what the medical practitioners say that they are of high-risk already, I know that in God’s time, they will be given their own little angels. For now, MLS is enjoying their frustration of being parents. My eldest brother has this innate parenting talent and skills amongst the 3 of us.
My other brother is currently in a relationship with a separated/annulled woman with 2 kids. They are not married yet, but I know they will be together in God’s time and my brother will be the stepdad of these 2 kids we gladly welcome into our family. He will be a very GENEROUS and disciplinarian stepdad, I just know.
TGL is the most selfless, yet playful, spoiler but very responsible and can-be-very-strict-depends-on-the-circumstances type of dad. He would indulge MLS with every game consoles available out there, from Wii, ps3 new games, xbox360 etc… etc… but would let MLS understands that he needs to earn these rewards through respect, responsibility and obedience. He may not be the perfect dad in most standards, but to me and MLS, he is the best and will always exert his best effort to be the most awesome dad ever.
These are the men in my life and I find strength in them. I have a very strong personality as a woman but I am not shy to admit that I do not know how difficult my life would be had I not have these men in my life.
Happy happy Father’s day to all the dads out there! I know that you are not often celebrated but keep doing what you are doing because in the end, your children are the best realizations of your efforts as Dads.
